The 2024 edition of AUTHORITARIAN IDOL, a multimedia performance satirizing the presidential election process, debuts tonight at the HOPE (Hackers On Planet Earth) Conference, at St. John’s University in Queens, NYC. The show will then be presented at 3D-Con in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday, July 26.
AUTHORITARIAN IDOL is hosted by electropop star and would-be dictator Maxx Klaxon — the alter ego of artist Maximus Clarke, through which he explores the psychology of authoritarianism. New versions of the show have been presented every four years since 2008.
The HOPE Conference is a hacker convention sponsored by the hacker magazine 2600. Clarke previously presented his PER SPECULUM IN AENIGMATE project at HOPE in 2014.
3D-Con is the annual convention of the National Stereoscopic Association, which promotes the study and advancement of stereoscopic 3D. Clarke screened his FROM THE AIR video, and discussed its production, at 3D-Con in 2022.
