ENCRYPTION PHOTO PRINTS AT CHENNAI’S FORUM GALLERY

The first edition of the Chennai Photo Biennale, an initiative of the Goethe-Institut Chennai and Travelling Lens, takes place across multiple venues in Chennai, India, from February 26 to March 13, 2016. The Biennale offers the strong photographic communities of South India an opportunity to engage with celebrated practitioners from around the world.

Photo prints by Maximus Clarke will be included in one of the Biennale’s exhibitions, ALTERVISION at Forum Gallery, exploring the role of images in a visually-saturated surveillance society.

Clarke’s works in the show are from his PER SPECULUM IN ÆNIGMATE project. Each picture in the series features a pixelated stereoscopic image of a model, dimly visible when viewed with 3D glasses, but partly obscured by patterns of encrypted data.

ALTERVISION will also feature the work of Harsha Biswajit, Rachel Rampleman, and Ronny Sen. All the artists in the show use alternative, expanded vocabularies of image-making within contemporary photography, in pursuit of critical inquiry.
